Hilux Towing.

Hey all,
am looking at buying a LN167 Toyota hilux dual cab sr5 3.0L diesel as my everyday/towing vehicle.
It has to tow a camper-trailer and also a soon to be comp vehicle.
The comp vehicle is a 84 4runner, that as it stands now is 1.62T
What is the most that people have towed with a hilux?
Was going to upgrade the brakes, add a turbo and beef up the towbar.
Cheers
Dan

Few issues there.
I don't think the hilux is rated for much more than 1500 braked towing
The 5l is a slug. You will be doing 30-40kph up hills with that much weight
Turbo will improve a bit, but the L motors don't hold up to the strain for long
Engine conversion options are much chop for towing either. THere are braking/engineering issues too
Unfortunately there's not much choice in dual cab utes so unless you really need the tray i'd be looking at patrol/cruiser wagons.

I have o9 dual cab tray back diesel and towed a fully loaded prado on a braked trailer up mount Vic no probs at all,A mate towed a land cruiser on the same trailer the night before with his Patrol and had to use low range on the same hills

the Lux went up in high range. My mate tows a race car around the country with his lux doing thousands of km a year with no probs.

And if you really need a ute there's the 75 series, but then you forego a lot of the comfort.

Has to be a 4 door 5 seater at least.
Might be leaning towards a cheap 3.0L gu wagon.
Its the price factor and age factor.
Might have a look at nissan navaras as well as they can tow 3T.
My mums pajero tows it around when its broken but thats a 3.2Di-D 03 model and it thinks its not there.
09 dual cabs have the D4-D motor and they are a different league of hilux motor all-together.
