84 hilux 4runner conversion
G'day all.
i was thinking about taking the 3y 2.0 petrol engine out of the old girl. just so it has a bit more power up steep hills,
now i am in the research if a 202/186 holden engine conversion ,
don't wanna go v6 due to electrics, i found a 2wd hilux RN something that had a 202 converted in it.
do you think the bell housing is the same?
if a conversion has already been done come anyone point me in the right direction,
CHEERS Trav.

Re: 84 hilux 4runner conversion
hey mate,
have a look on marks 4wd adaptors.
I used to have a 3y in my beast with stock ratios and 35s, on a big hill i would be in 3rd gear 70km/h and 3000rpm.
Cheers

Re: 84 hilux 4runner conversion
Hey mate i dont think that they bolt staight up.
I Bought a gearbox of a bloke that was planning to put a 202 or something on his hilux and that had a custom bellhousing on it. I still have it if your interested?
Otherwise i would think a 22r with a cam and webber would be a decent upgrade on a 3y without needing an adaptor.

Re: 84 hilux 4runner conversion
Yeah they don't bolt straight up the engine mount's have to modified and the bellhousing changed, and possibly tailshaft shortened, i was just interested if it has been done as i saw it in a 2wd. and thought that's different, but so easy to work on if it tend's to brake down in the country i the middle of no where.
is the bell housing you got to suit a G52 5 spd box?? cheers

Re: 84 hilux 4runner conversion
Yeah mate but i dont think i have the clutch fork or clutch release bearing. Maybe the standard g52 one works?
Re: 84 hilux 4runner conversion
hey mate,
i just took out my 3Y and putting a reco'd 4Y in... same engine mounts and all... not a hell of a lot of power gained but for a cheapy its pretty good...
hope this helps somewhat...

Re: 84 hilux 4runner conversion
That's the way to do it. 22r isn't as straight forward as you'd think. I got half way through and dumped it for a V6 conversion.Tonka D wrote:hey mate,

Doesn't need to be engineered either.
Re: 84 hilux 4runner conversion
Hey mate,
Depending on funds, I dropped out the 3Y and dropped in a 3RZ out of a 2005 Hilux, bolts onto 3Y engine mounts need a 25mm bodylift to clear bonnet, also need a 2WD bellhousing out of the same car which will suit the G52, I have a spare bellhousing if you decide to go this path.
Power wise the 3Y had around 69Kw and the 3RZ has around 120Kw depending on donor car. Wiring is very easy for an EFI engine conversion, only about 10 - 15 wires depending on how detailed you want to be. Also the 3RZ has the same inlet/outlet pipe location on the radiator.
Simple clean power from a Toyota engine that was made for 4wding.
Any questions feel free to ask.
