Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I recently bent my exhaust at the tip. I remember reading something like "to stop the exhaust coming back inside to run the pipe to the side". I have to get the exhaust shop to replace about the last 10 inches so just wondering where the best place is to have it come out. either to the side or pointing down. Pics would be good of what others have done.

down is ok but out the side is better but out the side and down is the trick.
