im nealy there turboing my GQ td42 ive got a dts low mount manifold, stainless gaskets, crossover pipe, im plumbing my own intake and the exaust joints doing a custom 3 inch dump and exaust but all i need now is the turbo and oil and waterlines and fittings, i already have the drain plumbed into the sump, but i want to get peoples opinions on what turbo to get, im tossing up between the garret gt2860rs with the .64 housing, which housing would be better .84 or .64? using an adapter plate as my manifolds a T3 flange.... or just a garret bushed bearing T3/T4 hybrid from AXT. suprisingly they will both be around 2 grand for the turbo, lines and fittings, which one will go better and whistle better :)?

I just fitted a 2876 with a .64 and custom .60 AR Compressor end, very happy with it ! Intending to run 15, its at 17.5 at the moment. That was the difference between bleed valve on original Turbo set up and this one!
Boost at 100 k cruise now down around 5 and EGTs dropped dramatically. Only seeing about 420 instead of 550 now on test hill.
Custon top moount on this as well.

mate if you do a bit of research on the net you will find that the garrett turbo of the gt28 series the
gt2860r
gt2871r
gt2876r
they all have the same size turbine wheel and the last 2 digits refer to the comp wheel size eg 60mm, 71mm, 76mm. these turbos can also come in different trims. the gt2876r will also have 4 inch inlet into the compressor housing where as the other 2 will only have 3 inch.
these 3 turbos are all ball bearing
if you want a good turbo to manifold adaptor pm matt mcinness on here he does ones that are 1 piece that are about 14mm thick fully cnc and flowed.

by the way i have a gt2871r on my 1hdt

something that a few people have said to me is to ask people what rpm they make 10psi in 4th gear and then you can compare the preformance of the turbos somewhat

its all personal preferance and desired use my brother has a gt2860rs on his gu4.2 and he now wishes he had a 2876 again as he sold one when he de tuned his truck he just prefers how it came on boost with the slightly bigger turbo as i said its all about what your plans are (bigger pump ,cooler and desired kw at the wheels )

VERY noticeable (no muffler) you can hear in wind up on starting as well..
No whine inside like OEM just sounds like its going to suck the snorkel inside out! Drives completely different to std. Very little throttle needed on cruise.
Makes 0.2 psi at idle about 0.5 at 1200 (no load) Accelerate in 5th at 60ks and it quickly jumps to 3 and keeps climbing. Lag ? bugger all.. I went around a roundabout today in 4th that I normally go around in 3rd, its pulled cleanly away no probs. PLUS it now goes very hard midrange and top end!
The custom compressor housing is a 3" inlet so easy to fit.

Dick , Who did the GT2876 with the Custon 60AR Compressor for you ? How much better is it ment to be than the standard 70AR housing on the 2876 ? .
Also , If you dont mind me asking , what kind of $$$$ did the Custom turbo set you back ?

Please just PM me if you dont want to put the Price up for all to see .

Thanks

Got a T3/T4 hybrid. Can't complain. It does everything I expected and more. Wasn't the dearest on the market either. Put it together with the 3" zaust and i/cooler, I am a very happy man.
