is it possible(QLD) to put a gu ute cab onto a gu td4.2 wagon chassis and end up with the towing capacity of the wagon at 3500kg and legal? or would it be downgraded to 2500kg and pointless.... just a thought thats all cheers.

I'd say, given the fact that the chassis are pretty much identical (the coil version of the ute), that wouldn't help you.
I'm pretty sure the towing capacity depends largely on how much the towing vehicle weighs (tare weight).
Wagon is heavier than a ute, safer to handle greater towing loads.
You could probably up-grade the towing capacity somehow but I don't know what that would involve.
I have chopped my wagon into a dual cab, and as far as I know, it will retain the same towing capacity (3500kg) but that may just be a loop hole in the system.....

Im about to start looking into if its possible to get the ute upgraded to 3500. Best bet is to call an engineer. As A.J said the only difference between the Ute and wagon is the tare difference.

yeah the weight reduction is the issue from the chop although i have a mine spec tray on my gu atmo with the headboard/rollbar that curves down and bolts to the side of the chassis and it would weigh more than rear of a wagon. it makes 5 inch hd flexys sit a 3 1/2 inch lift.....
