I have a 73 Rangie, it has maxi lockers and axles. and runs 35's. I break Cv's pretty regularly. My question is were can i get some that dont break?

We have had CVs from Mick Garner in our Rangie for about 4 years, have competed at Superior all terrain and other comps , have broken every thing else except CVsKirby wrote:I have a 73 Rangie, it has maxi lockers and axles. and runs 35's. Are these the heat treated ones that Haultech do (did?)nairbo wrote:We have had CVs from Mick Garner in our Rangie for about 4 years, have competed at Superior all terrain and other comps , have broken every thing else except CVsKirby wrote:I have a 73 Rangie, it has maxi lockers and axles. and runs 35's. It would be interesting to know how the MD/Hi-tough axles compare to the Ashcroft axles.dck7aok wrote:Just finished this conversion to Manny's old bobtailed 2 door Winch Truck. And auto and lt230 transfer. Got Ashcrofts direct from UK cheaper than local. Last trip out, Broke a rear Maxi axle - but not a front cv. Got awesome deal on full new set of MD splined Hi Tough Axles from Barry and I now got a full set of spares........Still got the old 35" Simex....Well worth the effort. You will need to machine out the inside of your stub a little to let the cv's fit, either ashcrofts or AEU2522's. Cheers Dan
Yes ,...I think they are one in the same.Slunnie wrote:Are these the heat treated ones that Haultech do (did?)nairbo wrote:We have had CVs from Mick Garner in our Rangie for about 4 years, have competed at Superior all terrain and other comps , have broken every thing else except CVsKirby wrote:I have a 73 Rangie, it has maxi lockers and axles. and runs 35's. well according to the data that MD published re strengths of their Hy-tuf axles and the data from Ashcrofts axle braking tests, show higher numbers for the Ashcroft.....but IMO there is alot more to a gradual torque increase on a machine by twisting....all Data shows that the material MD and Hi-tough use is superior....Slunnie wrote:It would be interesting to know how the MD/Hi-tough axles compare to the Ashcroft axles.dck7aok wrote:Just finished this conversion to Manny's old bobtailed 2 door Winch Truck. The other thing MD and Hy-tuf talk about is the heat treatment being a significant factor. Its interesting that Ashcroft get higher numbers as MD's seem theoretical rather than tested, but also the design on the MD's seem to be a lot better than the non-waisted design that Ashcroft seem to use.uninformed wrote:well according to the data that MD published re strengths of their Hy-tuf axles and the data from Ashcrofts axle braking tests, show higher numbers for the Ashcroft.....but IMO there is alot more to a gradual torque increase on a machine by twisting....all Data shows that the material MD and Hi-tough use is superior....Slunnie wrote:It would be interesting to know how the MD/Hi-tough axles compare to the Ashcroft axles.dck7aok wrote:Just finished this conversion to Manny's old bobtailed 2 door Winch Truck. I have no idea on the design of the Ashcroft, but would be suprised if they didnt waist....but then again they are getting high numbers out of 4340...so im thinking heatreated a bit harder????Slunnie wrote:The other thing MD and Hy-tuf talk about is the heat treatment being a significant factor. Sorry Dave, I just didn't remember the waisting on my ones. this said, I'd also just been looking at the Longfields website which don't appear to be.ashtrans wrote:Hi all,
I have not tested the maxi shafts in our test rig but I would agree they are very good, I doubt there is much in it regards to strength.
all our shafts are waisted and always have been,
ahhhh your talking cv's not axleshafts....Slunnie wrote:Sorry Dave, I just didn't remember the waisting on my ones. this said, I'd also just been looking at the Longfields website which don't appear to be.ashtrans wrote:Hi all,

I don't know if I've ever seen a waisted CV.... but was talking about axles.uninformed wrote:ahhhh your talking cv's not axleshafts....Slunnie wrote:Sorry Dave, I just didn't remember the waisting on my ones. this said, I'd also just been looking at the Longfields website which don't appear to be.ashtrans wrote:Hi all,

how old are the axles?TimRover wrote:I've had 10 spline hituff axles in my disco for a few months now, i pulled them out the other day and both were slightly twisted at the splines, and both splines are damaged as well.
this is only running 33's, rear locker and a tired old 200tdi
Not real happy with them but i spose thats what you get for running 10spline gear maybe?
CHEERS TIM.
The axles are about 4-5 months old, and no i havn't spoken to Barry yet, i pulled them out because my crown wheel and pinion was howling so i'm going to fit 4:11's while i'm at it.uninformed wrote:how old are the axles?TimRover wrote:I've had 10 spline hituff axles in my disco for a few months now, i pulled them out the other day and both were slightly twisted at the splines, and both splines are damaged as well.
