For the wheel alignment yes you need to adjust these.... If the ball joint is not bad they can be adjusted, so you don't need to change them.
But if the car is "all over the place" and the steering is bad it is probably caused by other thing than these.....
Sorry I don't know how they are called in English... maybe someone else can help in that. But I would say that you first get a second opinion about it.

Tie Rod ends, Bursons stock them, they were quite cheap in comparison Diahatsu were about $800 for the set and that was at cost price
The tie rods that connect into the steering relay are a prick to get out, have a big big hammer ready...

The ball joints are most likely shagged as well as the adjustment nuts being seized best to replace both ends of tie rods, I ended up having to replace the whole lot.

Bursons don't do the middle part, the rack end, IIRC, but they do have the ends at around $35-$40 each.
IF you can't seperate your old ones, get the middle bits from a wrecker and make them do the hard work of seperating them

Also are the shocks really that hard to replace as they have that useless control switch in cab ?

Oh, I forgot to mention too, Bursons sells a decent ball-joint separator as well. Well worth the investment.
