3L Surging Occassionally. Mass Air Flow ???

Folks,
My ever reliable 3L has me stranded in NSW, 30 000 km after rebuild has decided it wants to leak coolant. Hard to see where from. Maybe radiator or front of motor. More so passenger side but some on drivers but hard to say if its simply running down one of the trays.

I had noticed it was surging under load. Shifting maybe 200-300 revs when accelerator was not moved. ( Revs (and powers up) drops back revs drops back revs drops back etc) Is a 3L auto.

My question is if you were a betting man would the 2 be linked? What could cause surging? Possibly the box playing up? or sucking air somewhere?

3L's Rock :bad-words:

2nd truck, Running out of fingers to count the issues.......

This surging has me a little baffled... maybe 2 seperate issues but time wise seemed very co-incidental and pressuming they must be linked..........

Bucket of shite

For the surging check the turbo pipes arent loose

Is your water pump leaking?

Ended up being cracked radiator. Does not seam like any damage to engine otherwise.

Unsure re the surging issue - will be a follow up, but not doing it ATM

Ok shall get the turbo piping checked...

It did surge again today up hill under load at about 80. Noticeable loss of revs and power then surging again the 200-300 revs...

Will hit local mechanic tomoz...

Anyone want to buy it? reliable with a capital B.... for bucket

Did you ever end up getting Boost and Pyro installed?

Did the auto compensate/help with surges? Downchanges etc.

Not knowing enough about them, I would hate to think its overboosting again as that was the issue with them going bang originally?

Pauly it was surging but no change in gears - even when turned overdrive on/off or held foot flat to floor

Very very odd to be honest.

No boost or pyro was never fitted namely due to the fact we did not know when it was being replaced. Could have been in 10k or 50k Possibly around christmas i'll get a new bus..

if it was stuttering (not surging) between gears normally you could hit the over drive and it would come good but not the case...

If you hit the hill say at higher revs i feel it would hold and keep pushing but if farting about around 80 and try get it to move then you are in strife... almost limps. The other day it was doing it at 100-110. With the 305's and roof rack and the extra drag these bring it can cause the auto to skip up and down but never surge.

shall drop into parke's today for a yarn

well next question folks....

Mass air flow meters.. After one of our mates packed it in up the cape it was simply working or not working then into almost permanent limp mode.

Is it possible that they can simply be occasionally play up?? or simply working or farked...

Was told of another guy with similar but more freqent fun to me (mine running well now after playing up down south.) and it was the air flow meter.

Eg would hot/cold bumps aggrevate a problem eg bad connection on sensor or senso droppping in and out???????????????????????

Tell me why im buying another one of these please... o yes thats cos its free :D and boss to tight to buy me a cruiser :D
