Rocker breather?

How important is the rocker breather to the running of the 1.3 engines? Does it help draw the oil up to the top end or is it just for the emissions? As I've got quad carbs and no airbox to run it too to keep it under vacuum. I'm getting a smell of burning oil and a little bit of smoke and not sure if it is because of the lack of vacuum on the breather or because i'm running 15w-50 which maybe to thin? Was all done at the same time so i'm not sure what is to blame?

Yeah that'd be the one. If you've got a stock airbox i'd hook it back up but seeing as I don't have an airbox I'm a bit stuck to see if it does actually help with the oil system. See if yours stops burning oil when you hook it back up Might help answer my Q :)

Alot of people just run a small air filter on them.

I know the old 202s and the like used to have the little air filters on them but I'm abit worried that it is burning abit of oil now and that it has something to do with the lack of vacuum up there stopping the flow. The oil I just put in was penrite semi synthetic 15-50 the motor is fairly fresh and didn't blow smoke before i changed oil and removed the rocker breather line.

It is an emission thing, so that your burning oil fumes get reburned by being fed into your intake.

You could/should probably hook up an oil catch can somewhere and run it to your rocker cover.
