2nd set spotties

Gooday all, i need help please with wiring up a second set of spotties. I have just got a new Ironman bullbar with a set of driving lights pre fitted into the bar adjacent the indicators/parking lights, and I am reusing existing spotties ontop of the bar,witch i have had previously and used the existing wiring loom and they work just fine. I have used part of the new wiring loom to connect the in bar spotties. I only want to use 1 switch to run both. Since they both have their individual power supplies can i splice a set of wires prior to the switch for turning them on.

Are you running the power through a relay to supply the new spotties or the existing spotties? You will need to look at putting relays in the circuit to handle the power as the light switch is unlikely to be able to carry the total current you will need.
Buy 2 relays and splice them into the 12v power (direct from batt+ via 2 x 30 amp fuses) and run one to the existing lights and one to the new lights, and use the power from the switch to switch the relay coils.

Gooday Damkia, yer both sets of spotties will have their own power supply through in line fuses and seperate relays. I thought that only minimal power would be required through the switch(my way of thinking).Would they draw to much power from the 1 battery ? So do i assume the 1 switch is ok to fire up both spotties.

high beams
Switch should not under any circumstances take anything but the relay coil current. It will NOT handle the current of you normal high beam + original spotties + new spotties, this will most likely cause the fuses to blow or the loom to melt resulting in short circuit and possible fire under the dash. Note that the power tapped from the high beams for the relay activation is an ADR/roadworthy requirement, it is not enough to blow fuses with the existing OE high beam.
If you have OE high beams you could consider adding another relay for them (doing a fourth relay for lows while you are there). This would prolong the life of your high beam switch and also give better voltage to existing lamps as the OE wiring is usually marginal at best (made to a price).
55 watt lamp x 2 = about 10 amps
100 watt lamp x 2 = about 20 amp
OE 65 watt high beams From 65/55 headlights x 2 = about 12 amp
example:
2 x 55w + 10, 2 x 100w = 20, 2 x 65 w = 12 -> total = 42 amps in lights alone. add ~25 amps (typ) to run engine electronics/ignition/etc and you will need at least a 70 amp alternator to maintain the battery. Given alternators are rated at peak output/revs you would need about a 90+amp alt to cope in slow going environment (decreased output from alt)

Gooday Damkia, me again. You would not advise to say connect wiring in the engine bay save trying to get wiring thru the firewall and behind/under the dash and maybe not being able to connect anyway into the back of the switch. By the way, your wiring diagramme is fantastic thanks for for help. Its what i was looking for. The only thing i wasnt sure of was the 3rd relay.

Are the in bar ones not Daytime Running Lights as the local minstry for red tape would refer to them as ?
ie. You use them the same way many cars always have headlights on during the day for visiblity, except saving your headlights and running little crappy lights instead.

Gooday Dooley, i new someone would put a spanner in the works,i did not even think of that. I will ring the bar supplier tomorrow and ask the question. At the moment tho, i have them working with the other set of driving lights. I can say tho they did come with a wiring loom relay etc.

Gooday again, i went to the Ironman website and they are driving lights, may word games to convince, but they work well and are bright.

sorry to hack did not c the point in starting a thread for one answer ok i have a 3 pin switch how do u wire it ie. which one goes where ? cheers once again sorry

Normally... the center pin goes to power and one of the outer pins goes to your lights. If it is switching "upside down" then use the other outer pin for the lights.
