ive got a GQ with the 4.2 EFI and an auto, which means i have 4.6 diff ratios as standard. ive got 35"creepys for offraod but just woundering weather i should run 35 or 33" all terrains on the road? ive just heard with 4.6 diffs that you get better fuel econocmy etc out of the 35's.
just after peoples thoughts and suggestions.

What makes you think they come standard with 4.6s
My old 88 TB42 manual patrol came with 4.11 and my mates 89 TB42 auto came with 3.9s, I now own a TD42 manual which comes stock with 4.11s. I'm nearly certain that they didnt jump up to 4.6s for the efi models
4.6s are an ideal size for 35s as it bring ratios close to stock (being the 4.11 or 3.9s) If yours is 4.6s it will be sitting around 2800rpm with 35s at around 100ks (roughly from memory) correct me if i'm wrong guys! It would be screamin if you ran 31s

Myne is a 94 model, and it definetly has them cause it is on the plate in the engine bay that tells you engine, diffs etc. Someone said all fuel injected autos came with them.

These are pretty close for what gear ratios to what tyres bring your gearing back to stock.....
However most patrols are 4.1 standard and run 31s. up to 33s is ok.
But speedo and gearing is out.
If you go to 35s 4.3 is the closest to keeping the gearing at stock though a 34 inch tyre is whats spot on for 4.3s....
4.6s are still abit lower then stock gearing on 35s which mean you will rev slightly harder then stock at 100kms per hour still.
A 36- 37 inch tyre is spot on.
At the end of the day......
If you have 4.6s....
The larger the tyre the better the fuel economy ( ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 110kms per hour ) as the revs will be lower.
However that said, you will lose acceleration the larger the tyre you go and i you do alot of around town kms mostly ( stop, start at lights ) you will most likely burn just as much if not more fuel as you will be always on the foot accelerating to the speed limit.

HG46 would have been the code on the compliance plate with the 4.6s. Definitely a rare one then.
Most here would have expected 4.1s or 3.9s.

Only 2.8 GU and GQ's came with 4.6 Diffs
You will either have 4.11:1's or 3.9:1's, most likely 4.11:1's
