hi guys i did a search but couldnt find any relevant info i have some simex 36's that have been siting in the back of my fourby for over 12 months so far while i cant drive because of injury and it doesnt look like i will be driving anytime soon so im wondering how should they tyres be stored standing on the tread or stacked up on their side? and how long does the rubber last before it starts to go crappy?
cheers deano!

Store standing up if possible... tyres will go hard if sitting for a prolonged time, and when you refit them you will notice the difference.

i would store them on their side as simex's being bias play actually form a flat spot just sitting under their own weight.
as for goin crappy id say they would last a good 2 years without use, maybe try and get em onto a mates car for a week just to keep em moving, evry 6 months or something?

ok my fourby is at a mates farm so if it gets taken out in the paddocks and gets some mud on em and maybe some use on tar they should stay good for a longer amount of time

If they're on rims, stick a rod through the centre hole of the rim and position some supports under the rod (horizontal). Stops flat spotting/ Keeping them on rims also reduces the effect of moisture getting to the plies and rusting/rotting away.
There is a date code on tyres that will give you an idea of how old the tyres are. Generally any more than 5-7 yrs isn't to be trusted

If you are going to store them then try and stor them out of the sun. Even look at packing them in garbage bags. Keepign them out of the sun will help them last a bit longer.

not sure how reliable the info is, but i heard once you can use mineral oil or a nut oil (a natural oil that wont go rancid) to coat the tyres inside and out (brush or wipe it on) and this protects the tyre from moisture and drying out (hardening).
If the tyres are brand new however they would still have the goop they put in the mould to release them at the factory (hence why people "break in" their tyres - to get rid of that slippery layer).
