Hi
Starting to get a little worried about the clutch on my 98 5L hilux, 140,000klms on the clock new heavy duty clutch installed at 105,000 klms,,when I disengage the clutch to change gear (pedal down to the floor) I get a distinct clicking noise coming from the bell housing, this has been happening for the last couple of months, now from time to time my pedal is not returning up and I can't change gears, any ideas guys what the problem is just hope it's not a expensive one,,thanks.....tracks

It could be the throwout bearing. Not a cheap fix though as the box has to come out. What brand clutch? It's pretty rough for that to happen on a HD clutch so soon, even it it was abused.

Thanks, not sure what brand it was but I am sure that bearing was replaced, do you know what causes it as I don't flog the hilux, I do tow a small tinnie though,,,,

You shouldn't have left it so long to replace the thrust bearing, it sounds like it may have damaged the spindle it slides on, causing it to stick occasionally. I'd pull the gearbox out, replace the bearing and give the spindle a touch up with some sandpaper. Remember to grease it, no-one likes a dry shaft. ;)

I'd say installer error or poor bearing quality. Probably the latter. It's not rocket science installing a clutch.
