gday guys, just picked myself up a 60 series cruiser, 89 2h turbo

it seems to have very low vacuum from the vacuum pump, therefor i having braking issues.

eg: brake light keeps coming on and after about 2 hits on the pedal its going hard, and stops like crud.

question is can i get a rebuild kit to rebuild the pump?, (replace O rings and fins?? whatever else is serviceable ) , or should i take it to a auto elec. or just get a recoed alternator/vacuum pump. as i want to do it as cheap as possible.

any info would be appreciated..

cheers

Assuming that you've checked ALL the hoses for leaks and topped up the fluid, I'd try this with it before pulling it out and rebuilding it. Now I'll be honest and say I've never had one apart before, but the first thing that comes to mind is lubrication. The internals may have run dry and the vanes (if it's that type of pump) may have seized? In that case I'd try squirting some penetrating oil into the vac line from the booster while it is running (if you can). That might free it up and avoid a costly rebuild.

How much vacuum is it producing? I get a solid 23'' out of mine now and the brakes are much better, was due to dodgy lines, on my 13BT it is lubed by engine oil.

Check around the bango that attachs to the vaccum pump as mine developed a hairline crack that I couldnt find until I looked real close.

thanks for your help guys, ended up sorting this out yesterday.

had a good look at the system and realized that the artard i bought it off had
left one of the small vacuum lines off and it was tucked away under the fuel pump. :bad-words:

so anyway its all good now, cheers
