Ok so my rear main seal went a couple or months ago and I've been dreading pulling the box out to replace it, that was until my clutch started to slip :(.

So I went and sourced prices for clutch kits and found the awesome 4Terrain by Clutch Industries which we have tried and tested in three patrols now (but was always around the $850 mark) for $550 (pays to be a mechanic!) the retail for this was a whopping $960 thank christ for the trade discount!

The kit comes in a nice sturdy wooden box (will be keeping that for storage!).

I was like a kid on christmas day when I popped this bad boy open!

Finally got the box out, heavy f**ker it is!

The culprit!

The damage

Somebody put a GU rear seal in it so you can imagine my disappointment when my GQ seal had no use with this plate!
So off to the Wreckers I went, one hour and $20 later I return with the replacement.

Image

With the new seal fitted to the freshly bought alloy plate I set off to get my flywheel machined.

Image

$40 Not bad!

Image

All bolted up and ready to go
Now it came to lifting this lump of cast iron back into the car, after a fair bit of procrastination I thought to myself there has to be an easier way.

Alas I found a crane sling, a D shackle and this bad boy

Image

Removed the plate bolted to the trans tunnel and it opened right up.

So I bolted the transfer back on while the box was out and slid it under the car with the crane sling wrapped around it.

Image

After a little bit of mucking around with the sling to get the box to hang on the right angle we were off and racing.

A few hours later and with a little bit of pedal adjustment I was back on the road!!

So anyone that needs to pull out a 4.2 box I would strongly recommend using a crane sling and an engine crane!

I've had a 4Terrain behind my TB42 for 3 years now and it's one of the best i've ever used.

I've heard a vfew people whinge about them but i've never had a problem either. Most of the time you just have to adjust the pedal and it's all good!

The engine crane idea is fantastic !

I used mine to do exactly the same job this time last year but didn't take pics :bad-words:

The only hassle I had was lifting the gear-box/transfer I was not paying attention to the chain end of the crane and managed to break my rear view mirror

Wow! That looks like a very nice kit. I'm not quite familiar with clutch but just by looking at it plus the expensive price, it is sure to perform well. Anyway, my cousin is also planning to replace his clutch, I'm assuming you know a lot of them, do you happen to know any other brands beside 4Terrain that is much cheaper?
