Gday all,
My names Jason, im new to this forum but if all goes to plan you'll probably hear a lot more from me.
Ya see im looking at buying my first Nissan [ i've been a Rover man for years ] , but I don't know much about em.
I'm looking at a 95 DX 4.2D coilcab with 160,000 km, it's neat enough, though I have'nt driven it yet.
Can any one please tell me what to look for & look out for?
By the way it's priced at $19,000, good price?

a 4.2 diesel with only that many K,s , is still brand new !!!
not a bad $$$ long as the body is straight & clean ,
possibly get a mechanical pre-purchase check done !!!
guessing they wont find much ! ,
maybe front bearings will need adjustment , shite like that !!!

Thanks Moose,
It's a pretty neat truck, no rust just faded paint.
How should the gearbox feel?
any obvious [ audible, visual ] signs of a unhealthy motor, gearbox?
should be alright for a turbo hey?

check for signs of rust around the sliding window glass.

Have a close look underneath to see if its been 'sprayed' to cover past problems such as bulldust and so on.

Dents on chassis - to prove previous offroading?

Look at sump to make sure it hasnt been wiped down - as if theres any leaks it'll come from sump and gearbox and probalby both diffs.

Other than that. it sounds like a reasonable buy. Go for a turbo upgrade if possible. DTS make a good package.

I too was foolish enough to bounce around in a tojo for a while, oh how i loved the feeling of bouncing along in my old lux bumping up and down even though i was on dead flat road. Then one day this sexy little swb gq thing gave me the eye and hello!!! where have you been all my life. Never before had i had the pleasure of crawling along tracks and tough sections without bouncing side to side and feeling like i had been in a paint shaker, I love you coils

well fella's im glad your all happy with your Patrols. I've driven a Rangerover for years so im used to the comfort & ability of coils, my reason for going Patrol is I need a ute, but I dont like the Defender's cab [ I did'nt even consider considering a toyota ].
I did cosider making my Rangie a ute but it's all to hard when you've got Patrol coil cab's [ they are a good thing ]

thanks Jason

Main thing I'd be concerned about is the "previous" owners.....

Check if its been owned by a mining company at any stage, if it has leave it well alone !
Mining companys disconect the hi/low shift and a few other things get changed too, they leave em locked in low range for their life at the mine, they are thrashed and generally uncared for. When they come due for replacement they reconect the hi/low shift, and bolt up some of the other bits they removed when the vehicle first arrived and they are then sold on, usually through large auction groups.

One I saw was a yota and it was sweet to look at ......
It drove sweet too, in hi range ...... but in low range it was like being at a Spice Girls concert ..... only it screamed louder !
