How's it going?

I got a 2009 JK 4 dr Wrangler and I'm thinking of adding a 3 inch lift kit and switch to a 33 inch tyres.

Just not sure how it will affect the performance overall, can anyone please give me more info as to whether I should still go for it or not?

Like what's a good width for a 33 inch tyres? also I'm thinking of getting 15 icnh rims.

Thanks

15 inch rims wont fit on a JK... break assemblies too big.

JK's run 35's pretty easily so I'm guessing 3 inches and 33's should be a breeze.

Tyre width is a matter of what you can get under your guards .. 12 inch shouldn't be impossible.

Thanks heaps for the reply.

So are you saying the smallest rim size I can get for a JK are 16's?

Do you know if it will affect the performance of the car in terms of braking/stopping and most of all the engine? Will it make the car work harder since the tyres are bigger?

I've rang a few 4x4 centre and enquire about the same issue and none of them could really give a better response.

I appreciate again your help.

To be clear I run a TJ ... not a JK .. but I've tinkered on wheeled with quite a few JKs.

Generally a larger tyre size does impact your performance, fuel economy and handling (including braking).

Your results are going to be dictated by whether or not you've a auto or a manual and whether it's a deisel or petrol.

The autos generally deal with the larger tyre a little easier.

A JK on 33's though is a pretty minor step up .. it would be similar to a TJ on 31's. So I doubt your going to notice much.

As with all tyre choices though you need to try and pick a tyre best suited to your adventures ...

Don't really need any lift at all on a JK to fit 33" tyres.

And yes you need either 16" or 17" rims. Don't go for more backspacing than about 4.5". Anymore than this starts to stick out way too far and this affects steering quite badly.

as for diff ratios, the petrol manual will feel the bigger tyres the most.

Cheers boys,

So the plan is for me to switch into a 17 inch Black Sunraiser (width.. not sure yet) I most likely go a bit wider.

And then add 2 inch suspension lift kit and 33 inch Tyres.

My JK is a 4dr pertrol.

245/75/17s - This is my stock at the moment.

Appreciate your comments.
