Outer Limits 4x4 Board

gday all

l was goin through posts on here and from wat l've read everyone that puts extended shackles is that it rolls the diff aka changin camber needin caster correction wedges to fix it

the 2 problems that l have is later on l wanna put high steer kit in with my 3 inch spring lift plus extended shackles and front dropped cross member will this change the caster if using the dropped front crossmember ?

the other problem is wat does everyone do with the torque arm that mounts to the top of diff to front chassis when doin there suspension lift?

Putting a dropped front crossmember will bring the caster back to standard if running 2" extended shackles.

You can get an adjustable torque rod (Superiorengineering.com.au)

or when you go high steer you can piss it off.

If ya gunna go down the road of putting dropped front crossmember etc.

You are better off doing a RUF conversion (Rears springs up front)

thanks mate had a feeling it would bring it back to standard caster just wasn't to sure but better to be safe then sorry lol

Go for the RUF ( rears up front ) spring set up as willy said.
3" springs with 2" shackles and 2" dropped front hanger will be too high.
If i did mine again i would try to keep it lower.

l just need my rig to take 35's so how would you go bout settin your rig up to tires frankenyota

When you fit rears up front, you typically fit IFS rears at the same time.
Get some rear leaf springs from an IFS lux.
Here is a quick list of what you will need......

In the front,
- dropped front crossmember
- standard rear leaf springs
- extended shackles
- shock hoops and longer shocks
- tailshaft spacer or custom front driveshaft
If you arent fitting crossover or Histeer then you will need a dropped draglink.

In the rear,
- standard rear leaf springs from an IFS lux
- extended shackles
- inverted rear shock mounts and longer shocks
Depending on how long your extended shackles are, you may need to move your rear shackle mounts to get the best shackle angle.
If you take out any of the leaves from the rear pack, you may need to use a track bar, or anti wrap bar, to help prevent axle wrap.

Extended brakelines should be fitted as well as new suspension bushes all round if using second hand springs.

I would build a pack with the least amount of lift possible, how many leaves will depend on engine, bullbar etc
I made a 2" dropped hanger and mounted it 1" forward. This will move the front diff 3" forward, which will allow you to run bigger tyres.
To match the drop hanger you run 2" extended shackles.
To keep it low you could keep standard front hangers and use boomerang shackles, with your RUF springs. Then use castor wedges to correct castor angle.
The springs usally give about a 2" lift.
In the rear i run IFS 2" lifted with 2" shackles and repositioned hanger. But you can just use lifted rears if you like.

Yeah mate, Im in the middle of collecting bits to do RUF and IFS rears to mine.
Still have a bit to get before i can think about fitting it.

If you are moving your rear shackle mounts, you may as well buy new ones as I have done, Im not that confident that I can save them once I fire up the grinder.

And shocks wont be bought until everything else is on and fitted, so I can measure up the length I need.
