Aftermarket Axle Housings

Just wondering peoples opinions on some of the Aftermarket axle housings on the market out there for the hilux's, such as the Trail gear Rock Assault housing for example...

I have a 99' model lux with a Solid Axle Swap but i have just recently bent the front housing and given that this is the 2nd housing i've bent (1st was years ago tho in a different truck) i've been thinking about upgrading to something that is significantly stronger...

Will probably do both front and rear housings though

Also being a 99' model, means i need IFS width as dont like spacers due to legality reasons...

Who's used what? Opinions on what? What options do you think i have? and where is the best place to buy? etc etc

Cheers

Either diffs braced?

Rock Assualt would be off the shelf ready too go.
If your not so keen the only other option would be BUBS4x4

I have a bent front housing in my lux, I'm just about to order one from buds customs, looked at locktup website but as far as I can see they only have rear housings.

Buddy is making it wider to suit my 4 runner coil rear end (Ifs width) and rotating the knuckles to eliminate castor wedges. Using all the lux swivel hub assembly but a 60 series short side axle (short side wider then lux).

They are heaps stronger then the stock ones, no need for diff guard or bracing. Plus he is making longer steering arms to suit the extra width and highsteer.

Wicked - Na not properly mate, this one was not braced at all, just standard and the 1st one had a truss across the top but that was all... In hindsight it probably wouldnt have bent in the first place if they were braced but hindsights a wonderful thing hey....

Am open to the idea of a properly setup std housing, with all relevant strengthening, however it still wont solve the width issue to match the IFS rear.... ???????

Hey brad, that sounds alright, i emailed Bud to see what he says, no reply yet, but will be curious what reply i get

Bubs had a thread here in yota tech not that long ago on his custom housing build.
Maybe have a looksee through the pages here to see if you can find it.

EDIT - found it on page 15 or so.

You can get the spacer kits to use the Ifs hubs which will give you the width. But this puts HEAPS more pressure on the housing and is easy to bend again.

I figured by the time I got the Ifs spacer kit, new STD lux housing, brace kit, cut off my diff guard etc. For not much more I'd have a brand new straight housing in the correct width and miles stronger.

With bud's jst be patient, he is pretty busy but will get back to you.

Yea thats what i was thinking too, for all the mucking around and dollars for building one and still having to use spacers its makes sense to just get a custom or aftermarket one... Plus was also thinking if i was to pick up another 2nd hand one theres no guarantee it wont be bent either

All good brad, Buddy already emailed me back last night and gave me a quote on getting one built, pretty good too, just gotta decide which way to go now...

Dudelux - cheers for that man, at work now but will have a read tonight hey
