HELP Fuel Pump Diaghram Leak

Post by Swerve »

Well after a great 4WD at Sussex last weekend and being sick all week, came down to tidy up and bring the G60 home.

However after taking the Simex off and moving the car I found out my fuel pump diaghram is leaking. After pulling it out to inspect it was leaking out the air holes.

So pulling it apart there are cracks in the diagrham, from the photo their is another one next to the centre ring.

So my questions are

1- Can I seal the rubber holes with some type of fuel resistant sealant to drive the 2.5 hours home
2- Can I get the diagram out of the base and with a small lever it didnt want to come out ? If I get it out I might be able to make one from a tyre tube
3- Go and buy a electric pump to get home
4- Leave here for 2 weeks and bring a spare down, have 5 spare pumps and 3 spare NEW fuel pump kits :)

Main question is 1 ? Reckon I can seal it and limp home ?

Hey Mate, Is it a petty or a diesel? I thought that the G60 only came out in a petty, but didn't realise you would need a pump on a petty.

I've just been through this with my 2.8 hilux, eventually traced it to the primer pump, I reckon the way around this would be to bypass the primer pump with a barbed fitting and use a compressor on the fuel tank breather to create pressure inside the tank, this is how I traced where my problem was in my Hilux, once you have it pressured (don't go overboard with pressure!) it should be a matter of bleeding the system (once again if its a diesel) and releasing the pressure. There should now be sufficent vacuum to continue to suck from the tank. You might also need to seal the filler for the tank, I used another bit of filler hose, over the filler (without the cap being on) with a pair of hose clamps, one over the filler hole and the other one up the other end with a tube of sika stuffed in the hose.....don't laugh it worked! Also would make a great sika cannon, as I forgot to tighten up the last clamp and boooof, the sika launched about 6 or 7 metres across the yard!

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers, Dano.
