help 1989 hilux surf 2.4L lturbo diesel leaking prob

hi there i have a 1989 hilux surf 2.4L turbo diesel i just traded for my prob is we found quiet abit of oil from the turbo into the air filter and almost all the oil out of the engine.. there is only tad bit of white smoke on start up but nothing more than that ...i have been googling n ringing around and keep getting told diff things which is getting overly confusing
1- turbo seal gone
2- pistons n rings gone
ect ect ect
if you have any sugestions on what it most possible be that would be greatly appreciated
also we have checked the turbo n its is fine
i dnt know if i have to replace the engine or what please help

Sounds like rings are stuffed. PCV will leak a bit of oil into the inlet, if it's gushing in either it's not draining properly from under the rocker cover back into the sump and/or broken or worn rings. I have seen people route their PCV back into their sump but with a second hose teed off of that back to the original position. Rough but it puts the oil back where it's supposed to be.

Remove the PCV hose from the rocker cover and run the engine to see if that's where the oil is coming from, giving it a bit of a rev. If it is, check compression and go from there.
