Hi, I'm wanting to do a diff swap and I'm wondering if anyone has manuals etc. that list the different ratios and widths found in different models.
Also, I have heard that the GQ diffs were stronger than the GU and than Landcruiser diffs, is this true?

Have you looked in the bible threads in this section??? There is a lot of info on this subject already. Its not really hard to do you just click on the bible threads and the answers are in there for you.

But to save you doing a couple of minutes searching the diffs are the same width over the model ranges. The diff centres are pretty much the same for the front diffs and there are 2 different rear diff centers. The GU axles are much stronger than the GQ axles and it is a common upgrade as the CV is 2cm larger in the GQ. You can use a GQ centre in a GU housing but you may need to cut 5mm off the inside end of the axles to fit properly. If you're going to upgrade your diff to a GU then you would be best off bracing the diff housing at the same time. Just a thought.

Rear H260, ratio 4.375 TD42- ute, leaf spring; H233B*1, r 4.111, coil,
Rear H233B*3, r 3.900 TD42,TB42 - H'top & Wgn,
Rear H233*B2, r 4.111 TD42,TB42 - Van,
Rear H233*B3, r 4.375 RB30S
No. of pinions - leaf spring ute front/rear 4/4; others front 2, rear 4
No. of teeth (ring gear/drive pinion) H260 35/8, H233B*1 37/9, H233B*3 39/10 - RB30S 35/8, H233B*2 37/9

he means GU is 2cm bigger, not GQ..... they are smaller than GU CVs

What is available in terms of aftermarket diff ratios?
I'm planning on running the diffs with 35's in a 1uzfe powered Hilux and was thinking of a lower ratio, like 4.88:1 or something.
Are there quality aftermarket units?
What are the comp trucks running?

The only thing I've heard from a while ago was that some of the 4.6 gear sets caused the pinions to snap. It had something to do with some scoring on the pinion itself. But I haven't heard of that happening for a couple of years and I haven't heard of any particular brand being better than another. the gearing ranges are 3.9, 4.1, 4.3, 4.6 and 4.88.
