4JB1T Turbo Question

Grrrr.... Don't you hate it when you spend 15 minuites writing a post only to find out you are not logged in.... now take 2!

I have aquired an intercooler, mounts and plumbing from what I beleive to be a 4JG2-T that I want to put onto my 4JB1T Rodeo. The mounts all seem to line up fine as does the outlet of the intercooler to the inlet manifold, and the air inlet pipe that I got with the intercooler. Based on this I am assuming, possibly wrongly, that the 4JG2-T and the 4JB1T and fery similar if not identical in shape and component placement.

My only issie is that with the turbo on the 4JB1T in its standad spot, the intercooler sits directly over its air outlet, whilst the intercooler inlet is a few hundred mm past the turbo outlet with the intercooler inlet pointing down and forward.

It is physically impossible to connect the two but I am going to make another assumption that, being that the 4JB1T and the 4JG2-T seem to be so identical, that their turbo is also the same or very similar.

My question, hence showing my naivity on turbos, is can fresh air side off the 4jB1T turbo be rotated around by say 90 degrees so as to somehow permit the mating of the intercooler and turbo?

Feed back appreciated.

Cheers
Rainsey

There are some of the isuzu turbo's that can be rotated, care needs to be taken coz if the bearing dislodges you are screwed, i am unsure of which turbo's turn and which dont, but jump on http://www.clubisuzu" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and there is a heap of posts on there about it somewhere!

Rodeo98,

Thanks for the info. I have opted the safe way out and ordered a replacement turbo that was off the 4JG2. The bolts mounting the outer housing are not symetric to if I did try to rotate I most probably would have to drill and tap new holes... although having said this, the chap from 4x4isuzu did indicate that my could be rotated.

Regardless, i'll have a spare.

Cheers

Almost all turbo compressor housings can be spun. Some have an alignment pin which you can remove onve you've pulled the cover.
