I open with the fact that I'm new to forums & know I'm risking being chastised but as soon as I know where I really fit I'll be happy to move this thread.

I've just purchased a 1993 LN106, I nearly have it ready for road worthy after extensive engine and front end work. I prefer to keep the engine I've done so much work on. I like the frame & body but I need any constructive information anyone might have in converting the engine from the 2.8L to the 5LE as want the monitoring capabilities of the ecu mainly because I want to do the turbo and LPG mod on the engine. It will be a long project and I know it but I'm starting the leg work now to compile the information I need. I know ferret has allot of good information about blocks so I hope I might get some information. Thank you....

I have put the 5Le into my ln106 lux from a 2004 hilux.

Now there is a fair bit of difference between the wiring harness of the 3L and 5Le.
You will need a complete donor vehicle to pull the whole wiring harness out of and install it in the lux.

-had to use the 2004 dash (blue face), it's completely different in wiring to the 3L one
-had to lengthen alot of the wiring harness to allow it to run in through the firewall properly which includes hole sawing guard and fire wall to run harness.
-had to pull out the cable throttle and peddle and use the complete 5Le one as it is electronic (throttle position sensor) which includes all different mounts
-adapt sensors from the 5Le a/c and silicone them into the housings, I used the 3L a/c pump and all factory lines not the 5Le stuff, but had to get a custom line from filter to fire wall because high pressure sensor is in a different place
-buy a diesel power chip to correctly control boost and fuel (turbo glide kit I took off my 2.8)
-and adapt all other wires eg, ignition, indicators, hazards, headlights etc etc, because there both lux dies not mean it is un plug and plug in, some wires are different and takes a bit of work to wire up.
-block off egr piping (emissions crap)

Though it looks factory and unless pointed out you could not tell and runs heaps smoother with less fuel consumption and more power then the 2.8.

And I have a adjustable computer to dial between 67 kw and 8psi up to 86 kw and 14.5 psi ATW on 32's and 4.88's with egt's max'n out at 360 degrees C full load on a hot day.

But knowing what I know now it is not much more work to put in a 1KZTE which would be better.

But I had a complete 2004 lux to pull down for $3000 and I needed a new engine this one had 72000 k's on the clock

Cost me a total of $6500 for the lot with new clutch and radiator (big alloy one)
