I have just purchased a 94 SR5 with V6 commodore conversion. Not sure if it was the best move but time will tell. First problem I am having though is the transfer will not change into 2wd. Hi and Low range work but when I change into neutral and am in gear it is like I am in neutral 2wd. I assume it is something to do with the transfer case? How much damage can be done driving on the road in hi? Any help would be appreciated as I am new to the 4wd scene.

Alot. On my old troopy i know i had to rock it into 2wd on a slope just tap the throttle to rock the car back and forwards. Also pretty sure neutral is as it says there should be a 2wd option from memory, drive a 80 now so cant double check but pretty sure its front left on the lever.

If you have the transfer stick in neutral, you won't be going anywhere, 4wd or 2wd.

Thanks for all your responses. After posting this question I continued searching and found that SR5's have the automatic disconnected differential setup on them. Leave the shifter in 4H and the button on the side operates the transfer case to engage the front driveshaft and lock the front hubs. Was not explained well by the guy I bought it off who said the button only operated the hubs. First time I have had this type of set up so kind of threw me. All good though and drives great.
