G'day all
having a problem with a large oil leak on my HZJ75 cruiser ute, seems to be alot of oil coming through the intake, inside the turbo plumbing post compressor is coated in oil and oil is leaking from the underside of the intake manifold.
Turbo is a mitsubishi, TD04 i think
Oil usage is about 1 litre for 200 kays of highway driving, exhaust has a blue haze with a big puff of blue smoke on start up when cold.
Checked the crankcase breather hose and there doesn't seem to be any excess blowby. Hooked the breather hose up to a bottle just to see how much oil is going through there.
Thinking along the lines of the turbo seals being farked??
If so whats it worth to get the seals replaced???
Cheers

could be your turbo mate. how old is the motor? i had to rebuild my 1hz because of sump pressure. it used 5l of oil over 400km trip. if it is sump pressure that can damage your turbo as the oil draining from your turbo can pressurize back up the pipe causing damage on ur turbo seal. has the turbo got any shaft movement? as for pricing on the rebuild on a td04 i got quoted $700 from mtq. i just put it back on. and ive done nearly 10000km on it and its all sweet.

Cheers sloth, tonight i hooked up the crankcase breather hose to a bottle and drove 100 kays and there wasn't a drop of oil in it when i got home so thats good news for the engine. still a fair bit of oil in the turbo plumbing.
replaced the rear main seal a few weeks ago and there is a bit of oil around that area.
How much can a rear main leak? left it idling in the shed for half an hour but couldn't get anything to leak

the problem sounds like it lies in the turbo mate. id say its done a seal.

Yeah it's sure is looking that way mate, think i have a combination of two leaks going on there either way it's losing alot of oil at the moment.
probably wouldn't hurt to give it all a freshen up, turbo's been on for 110 000 so far, 310 000 on the ute

where is ur oil drain? is it plumbed into alternator drain or does it have direct drain into sump?

Oil drain is direct back into the sump, already pulled it off and cleaned it up, seems okay

I found that my oil breather was tapped post compressor and due to the pressure being created it was drawing oil through the rocker breather. Now I run a oil separater no more problems. I can only suggest maybe this could also be a problem..

AHHH you've got your PCV hooked up post turbo?
Mate, there is nothing worse than that!
The PCV must be plumbed to a vacuum environment (pre turbo).
