Gday all
Possibly getting a job in the NT and was wondering if I'll be able to get my cruiser re regirstered next year.
In NSW I have a 6 inch lift and running 35s. (Engineered)
Will I have to try and re engineer it in the NT ?
Cheers Phil.

you will need to speak to the MVR and they will help you through the process.
at the least you will have to make a submission to the technical advisory committee

In actual fact the NT has some of the best rules in Australia regarding mods. A previous chief minister was a total motor head and changed the laws. almost anything goes if engineered and if really way out will be registered as a single vehicle manufacture. Having said that there are rules that still apply all of which can be obtained easily from the MVR

Thanks guys
I was thinking I might have to dump it before I go, but from what I've read so far I think I might hang onto it and do what needs doing down the track to make it legal up there.
I'll follow that forum up for sure!
Cheers Phil.

a lot also depends on what part of the territory you are moving to. the fella that does the inspections here
only checks lights and thats it.

Do you think you'll be going back to NSW later? I am just wondering how you'll go trying to move it back as well.

Concidering the amount of highly modified 4WDs in NT. You should have not too many issues getting rego since you have already taken the effort in getting it engineered.
The amount of people running 35's on their daily driver up there is enough to make us from QLD sick.
A mate of mine has a V8 Hilux that you would have a herd time getting regod in NSW. The barwork alone would make it illegal in most parts of Australia, yet it is concidered normal up there.

You will have to through the TAC route. However because it is already engineered it will be a painless inspection for you.
It does take a month to go through the process, but you have 3 months to change rego up here before it is considered to be
uninsured.
I am in the process of completing mine from 80 wagon to extra cab, coil overed, 355v8, winch challenge class on 37's. the biggest hassle
i got was the internal rollcage in regards to head clearance, and a lane change test due height change in vehicle.
best of luck and will probably see you on the tracks up there.

Thanks boys,
I feel a lot better now.
If the job works out I might do a diesel conversion or get something newer with a diesel for remote travel.
Can't afford to go down that track at the moment, but at least I can work with what I have.
Hope to see you guys on the tracks.
Cheers Phil.

I took a cut down dual cab 100 series in to get regoed for my boss, plus it had a 800mm chassis extension and it was all mod plated in Qld, passed no worries.
I also asked about an x-link for my GU and they said it would need TAC approval.
The inspector said if it is already engineered/mod plated in another state, then that's good enough for them, they'll check the paperwork, plates and codes etc, pretty easy by the sounds of it.
