80 Series Factory Cruise Control

Post by Simmo88 »

I recently bought a factory cruise control after I got sick of replacing the magnets on the aftermarket model it came with.

I haven't managed to get it to work yet, but after looking around some forums I suspect a good place to start is a 4-Pin Brake Sensor. I assume mine is the 2 pin version, as it never came out of the factory with cruise. If anyone knows where I might get one, or has one laying around they don't use let me know.

The other issue its having is when I plug the Cruise ECU in, when on petrol (its on LPG) once the engine hits 2100rpm, it cuts and trhe revs drop back to say 1500rpm. If you dont change your throttle position, they will quickly rise back up to 2100, then drop. Any ideas? or should I just wait until I have the rest of the parts for my kit. Is there some other stuff I need to make it work? It is an auto btw.

Thanks.

I think it came from a 96. I have a 93. I have installed the control arm, plug and play. Installed the ECU, plag and play and installed the actuator under the bonnet, again plugs straight in.

there are several differences during the model runs about 92 then again 95 the control stalks changed about 95 from switch type to resistance type many of the pins swapped position what i normally do is cut the plug out of the donour car to check all the wires are in the right place
although the plug is the same for the ecu
they added a clutch switch at this time as well
yes you will need your 4 pin brake switch to be fitted any toyota with cruise has one that fits
also a diesel ecu will not work in a petrol or vis versa

Ok, so I finally got a hold of the 4 pin brake sensor. With the Cruise ECU plugged in and on petrol, the engine still cuts power at 2200rpm. Also I noticed the OverDrive light on the dash begins to flash. Unplug the Cruise ECU unpluged, back to normal. I did a part number search and it appears I have the 96/97 model verson. I am guessing this is not backwards compatible. Here are the 2 diagrams I have been working off:

I have the -60160. Does anyone know if it will even power my actuator properly? I assume its the 96 version also.

Can anyone confirm this?

Does anyone want to swap or have the right one for sale?
