Fuel consumption. Auto VS Man Hubs

Hey all,
I have a question to do with Fuel consumption and the affect of manual locking hubs.
I've recently replaced the auto hubs on my GU patrol with manual hubs and was wondering if anyone knows if this will improve the fuel economy of my thirsty 4.5?
I know with the landcruser (constant 4wd) fitting manual hubs to disengage the front diff will improve the fuel economy.
Will fitting manual hubs to the patrol also be an improvement or do the auto hubs fully disengage the front diff the same as manual hubs do anyway??

Don't Gu's come with an auto/locking hub that can be set to auto, or fully locked?

It's not measurable. It's marketing crap.

yeah didnt think so either. My mechanic seemed to think it would help.
The auto hubs are auto or they can be locked manually.

They are totally different cars one is full time 4wd and one is part time 4wd? not the same boat!
To save fuel on a 4500 you need to remove the gravitational pull of your foot to the fire wall, drive less or change engines not much else will do much unfortunately, every change will be small.
do you run roadies or muds?

Which would save more fuel: A part time kit; or a hiclone?

sadly i agree it wouldn't have any effect being auto or manual hubs, if you want to make your 4.5 cheaper to run simply gas it or get rid of it, I'm on the same boat as you mate owning a 4.8 ,

i think you got auto hubs mixed up with no hubs.
autos should be unlocked when your on tarseal so its exactly the same as a manual hub unlocked. knowing that people forget to unlock manual hubs means auto have a very slight adavantage (assuming they are working properly).
some part time 4x4's have no hubs ie the shafts rotate even when in 2wd (eg some navaras). fitting manual hubs often gain about 1 litre per 100km/s. even vehicles with ADD (diff disconnect) gain fuel economy, less wear on tires and CV's.
