gu is increadibly strong as standard, 80/100 series rear comes close to matching strength. as for fronts 80 series has a hilux centre so it is weak and the cv's arent as strong either. but a 60 series diff has a equally strong centre and a stronger housing, only thing is that it runs hilux axles and cv's but not to worry because dirty 30's or longfields are stronger than anything available for the gu and you can have yourself a built 60 diff that is stronger and for cheaper than the cost of a gu diff. as for rear gu/gq if you cann put up with having nissan parts in your car, 80 is good but does not have a centred pumpkin. gu are from memory 2 inches wider over all than gq (1 inch each side) and are stronger in the cv department.

as said rear cruiser is very strong but the front isnt so much (60 series excluded).. also a lot of people refer to them as a hilux diff, the ONLY similarity is the size, they are a high pinion centre which does make them stronger forwards but not in reverse...
It doesnt take much to strengthen a high pinion, chuck in an air locker and a solid pinion spacer and a set of longfield CV's and u have a very strong diff.

so how much would it cost to do that to ur diffs? like the air locker, solid pinion and CV's

ok cool thanks "thehanko" but what spline axle does a 79 series have? cause i was looking on longfield and they got 30 spline and 27 spline. also do the premade kits work or so ya need custom length?

the splines they are talking about are the spline in the cv itself, 30 being stronger you cannot use a 30 spline with a 27 spline axel and visa versa 27 is stock, spline number wise anyways. so if you are going for a axle and cv set get 30 spline, if you are only getting cv's you will need 27 unless you already have 30 spline axles. no matter which you buy they have the same spline that slips into the diff centre also dirty 30's are around 1000 dollas longs are more dosh

with HP cruiser diffs u can only get the stock spline count and thats it. (27 spline i think).

you can use the 80 series longfields (they are bigger than all the other longs
but i dont think they make chrome axles for the 79
the hipinion center is fine just fit an air locker and some after market gears

i looked last night and found ARB Air Lockers in US for $799 with 30 spline for landcruiser and spoke with longfields and there 30 spline "super set" is around USD$1000 to your door. So that seems like the way to go

Are u sure u can get 30 spline for 80 series?
I have the super set in my 80 and they are 27 spline, and was told by longfield that they only do 27 spline for 80's, even in the super set, they said that the 30 spline was for 60's and luxs.

unless ppl are talking full custom?
