Hey,
Looking to buy a tidy 4x4 SR5 '96 model lux, It's going quite cheap, 98% stock, 200,000kms on the clock.
Just wondering if there are any particular problems with that model? Anything specific i can watch out for? What improvements could i make? etc...
Thanks for your help in advance.

They're pretty much the same deal as the base model luxes to look at. But will be higher trim level (nicer seats) and a few other electrical goodies.
Main difference mechanically will be ADD for the front end (auto disconnect diff) which means the front axle runs all the time and is vacuum operated for locking, all designed to saves you having to get out to lock any freewheel hubs in. Also, transfer case will be chain driven not gear driven like the poverty pack base model lux which isn't a drama until you want to fit crawler gears for really hard off road stuff.
And IFS (independent front suspension) instead of solid front axle. Again a lighter duty setup from an off road perspective compared to the base model lux. Also a lot harder to put a big lift into.

if its a diesel 2.8....which i think was the motor of choice.....no other.....in diesel range...
get compresssion TEST DONE...
they are prone to losing a cylinder.....
EVEN WORSE IF TURBOING...
my cousin had a dual cab....safari turbo....ran 35inch tyres....
BLEW THE GEARBOX UP....ended up putting a cobra box in and bend the gearshift....to get it in...
he was hard on it....
just the motor would be worth spending the money on getting a compression test.....100bucks for peace of mind.....?
gearbox might be okay...not to have it checked.
but i only know a little....bit....
front diffs are small and are prone to snap with bigger tyres and power..
