Leaf Springs

My rear leaf springs have the centre pin closer to the front of the vehicle. (Basically, the front half is the short side)
I want to increase my wheelbase slightly, so I can run larger tyres without fouling the guards at the front (there isn't anymore sheet metal that can be removed from the front of the guard, but the back has heaps)
If I turn my rear leaf springs around, what problems can I expect???
Tailshaft length; shock mounts....................

you are halfway there, tailshaft, shock mounts, brake lines, pinion angle, simple stuff really!
also keep in mind where it is now, turnong the spring around could lower or increase your ride height?!?! depending
but it definitely will change your pinion angle!

Thanks Rob,
Tailshaft at standstill has no spline showing, flex isn't that great on the rear, so will the standard tailshaft suffice ?
Shocks are currently mounted on the front side of the cross member in a / \ style, they can be moved to the rear of the cross member.
Brake lines are plently long enough (they are Bootie double lines  )
Will pinion angle change for better or worse - or what are the possible outcomes?
Finally, how will my height be affected ?
Cheers
Dan

pinion angle is easily fixed by making new spring perches or moving the ones that are already on there.
What rear springs do you have on there now?
55 or 60 springs are the go.

Hey Rob
I am THE ORIGINAL "
Shorty40"
I didn't think I would have to say what sort of rig I drive every time I post (or post a pic of it) - although I see you aren't shy in letting people know what you drive
Dan (Shorty40)
BTW I emailed you that pic

Hey Administrators,
Can we help the new Shorty 40 change his name to avoid this confusion.
He has emailed me for advice on changing it, but I am a bit of a computer spastic
Thanks

as soon as you changed your avatar back i knew straight away!! when your avatar was something else i was like WTF? ford explorer?
yeah spring flip is easy, you need a tailshaft though, main thing, and if your springs are flat, the pinion angle wont change, or if it does you can wedge a caster correction plate in there
it is a easy and simple swap, but you need to re-drill the mainleaf on your existing springs, OH and doa track bar when you do it, the longer portion of the spring being now at the front WILL NOT help the situation back there

I thougt the avator thing may have caused some confusion. Then again TWO Shorty40s will do that for ya

I thought that as there was no spline showing at rest, it would be long enough. What are the options for a tailshaft ?

What is the purpose of redrilling the mainleaf ?
Track bar is already in the pipeline

re-drilling the main leaf allows the military wrap to remain on the fixed end of the spring
pipeline the wrap bar after the wheelbase extension, TRUST ME, do it at the same time, doing it before doubles your work
tailshaft options? your diff will move ~3.75" (fairly accurate measurment)
i just kept moving mine back until a standard length front tailshaft fitted in!?!?!?! wont take much!

How much more than the 3.75" will it have to go to fit a front shaft in
Track bar will be sorted

go to the wreckers, find a front shaft that is common and cheap, off your model or simlar, and that bolts in, now move your diff back that far, i think its a bolt in?!?!?

Will this make me a bolt-in bandit as opposed to a bolt-on bandit
