Is it normal for a Feroza to lock the rear brakes fairly easily- ie well before the fronts?

I was testing the brakes out yesterday (admittedly I was going downhill which wouldn't have helped) and thought I'll apply them firmly, and then slowly increase the pressure until they lock. Well, the initial firm application locked the rears straight away!

Is there some sort of load dependant bias valve (and maybe mine's stuffed), or do they just have the F-R bias fixed?

When I had the Feroza diff in the rear, I never had any probs with locking the rear.

Are your shoes in good order, nothing bent (rotor), callipers not loose ???

Yes, everything is supposedly OK. I had the whole vehicle checked out last Friday- rear shoes had plenty left on them.

I think it may just have been because I was going downhill and the weight transferred to the front too quickly. I found the bias valve and it's just the normal fixed type and so doesn't compensate for light loads on the rear, like I would have had in that situation.

I've just put new pads in the front, and am bedding them in, so can't try hard braking again for another couple of hundred K's. But when they're done I'll try again on a flat road.

Metal King Plus front pads are worth the bit extra too. I'm still taking it easy but they already feel a lot more powerful. Rated to 400 deg C compared to 280 for the standard Bendix pads.
