Somethings not right. Should lock up both if your lucky and the rear brakes are adjusted correctly. They are temperamental at the best of times.

Your rear brakes would be drums and they are probably just not adjusted the same. It's an easy fix if you know how to do it. Or a cheap fix for a mechanic to do it, if you have a regular mechanic he may even do it for free because it can be done in a few mins. (If there isn't too much mud inside the drums)

If you are pulling on the handbrake while the car is still moving to lay down some fully sick 11's then keep in mind you'll have to dip the clutch as the engine will easily over power the handbrake, and due to the differential will cause one wheel to lock and full power go to the other.

fully sick 11's? dont follow?
yer i just did the shoes and machined the drums because they were low and when i was adjustig them up had a look where the cable goes into the mechanism on the diff it only seems to be pulling tension on the one side its a bit odd

Sounds like something is a bit seized then. Try pulling on just that side of the cable with a pair of pliers. If it's fine then it may be a problem with the connection between the two sides.
"fully sick 11's" are the marks your tyres will leave on the road when doing a handbrakey (once you fix you're handbrake, at the moment it will only be a onesy).

As said, it is prob not adjusted correctly.
If you don't know how to do it just get the mechanic to have a look inside the drums to make sure it looks ok and adjust them.
