Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Howdy Yall

I currently own a 60 series cruiser that costs me an absolute packet to run so im looking at either a twin cab lux or a forerunner,, not sure yet which one to go.

Here's some of my thoughts:: feel free to comment

Can i fit motorbikes on the back of a twin cab lux ??
I figure i can get one on there diagonally and maybe two with the tail gate down.
I like the look of the styleside (tailgate at back) tray but i dont want to be streessin out about scratchin the ducco when it gets a bit hairy so im not sure whether to go the flat tray (veil side i think). I havent had alot of experience driving offroad so im not sure how much it would get bashed up.

Its gonna be on gas and if i want to put bikes on the back then the tank will have to go underneath, which leaves me with a spare tyre floatin around somewhere in the tray, plus i will need to carry some survival gear, toolkit, snatchy, etc so i will probly need to mount a big ass box in the tray aswell.

So for anyone out there with a twin cab, is there any room behind the rear seats for survival kit, small tool box etc. ?
Whats the deal with putting bikes on the back. ?
have ya bashed up ya tray. ?
if ya had to do it again would ya go a forerunner ?? (no bikes on back,, more room for tools n general shit to float around in the back, can sleep in the back if ya need to etc )
or a different tray ?

Whats ya thoughts ??

Get a gen 1 lux put the gas tank parallel to the petrol tank and WALAAR, room for to bikes.

ive got a dual cab lux and soo does a mate. we both have styleside trays. my mate puts his moto bike in the tray and it fits diagonally, just. the corner of the tailgate is now bent out about 15mm. i cant fit my mtb in the back standing up and when lying down the tyre hangs over the side a bit (just for size comparision). behind teh back seat is enough room for a couple of straps, ropes and other crap. i got a couple of free laptop bags and they fit really well behing the back seat and also under the front seats. from the sounds of things could you get away with an extracab? heaps longer tray and enough room behind the seats for quite a bit of gear. get a dropside tray and you could probably fit the gas tank underneath. only prob is that u cant carry more than 2 people on long trips. newer xtra cas ghave enough roon for 4 people on short trips but not long hauls.

I had a duel cab, and reckon go an extra cab if ya not a family type, heaps of room in the cab for 2 and a good size tray, jam a canopy on it and ya can sleep there to, piss it of when ya got ya bikes in back.

I went camping on the weekend with a couple of mates, one has a dual cab lux, (an old farm worker from his farm so it is already pretty bashed up). He had 2 dirt bikes in the back with the tail gate down. Tarp, jerry cans, gear bags etc. all tie down nicely under and between bikes.

Then for other shit like food throw it in on the rear seats, its a great setup and you'd be suprised how much gear you can jam in there.

His was a style side, didn't put any more dents on it as when you have the bikes there the urge to get your car stuck is not great.

Yeah its good to hear from people who own twin cabs, get the low down .

I have pretty much decided its gonna be a twin cab rather than a fore runner,, and if it turns out that i dont get a bike or dont use the tray that much then i can get a forerunner next time.

just gotta do some more reading around here to suss out the gen 1,2 etc I have already picked up that i want to stay away from IFS.

Learning heaps from cruisin round the forums.

Yep thats how my gas tank is set up and still have room underneith for the spare tyre(35 x 12.5 x 15) tight but fits.

Go the dual cab. With only 2 bikes and people in it you have all the back seat for gear. Three bikes and blokes will fit in for day trips. There's a fair bit of room behind back seat too, I have hilift jack, air compressor and hose, tyreplyer kit, rubber mallet, snatch strap,tree protecter, whinch extension, pulley block, 3 shackles, spanners,standard jack, toolkit, tarp and dunny paper (most used item).
Or you could take every thing with you.

If your running it on LPG caouldnt you just lift the tray and put the tank across the chassis rails under the front of the tray. This is for a flat bed style tray. Its not like the petrol tank will be there anymore. Or is it different on a dual cab? I personally also like the look of the stylesides better but as soon as your thinking of taking it off road they become a liability.

Thats a fair bit o stuff ya got there, I didnt think there was that much room ,, (probly should pull up and have a look at one in a car yard).

Thats a good thought but i think it will be dual fuel, just in case i cant get gas in remote areas (if i ever get there), or something goes bung in the gas side o things i always got petroool as back up.

I know what ya mean about the tray being a liability offroad,, and i havent decided which way to go yet, i do like the look of the custom trays Ive seen in here raised and shortened.
