Hi guys quick question, do diesels need back pressure to start?

Ive had to change a head gasket for a 2H and in the process ive snapped a couple exhaust manifold studs which I need to repair tomorrow. So Ive put the rest together and tried to start the car but the batterys are flat. So while Im charging them should I be connecting the exhaust up for the backpressure and remove it later for the repairs?

Nope. Diesels run better with no back pressure. Any back pressure will negatively affect the performance, both maximum power and torque curve.

Will update my cactus 2H post when batterys are charged. Im not holding my breath but Im finally glad I got the time to put it together again. Its been a real mission and the bastard head has been fighting me every step of the way, and then the car joins in by giving me no juice to crank.
