Hey guys, having few dramas with my brakes, put it down to either booster or master cylinder i think, its late 90 model with drum rear, all pads are good, have readjusted rear pads and bleed all lines including proportioning valve and pedal goes halfway down before stopping solid and barely pulls the ute up at all, have done the pump pedal before starting and pedal goes down slightly when started but only halfway and gets solid again, i was thinking to just replace all items but not sure if it would be just wasting money, any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers Mick

I think it sounds like the master cylinder. You could try bleeding it on the car like you would bench bleed it in case air got in when you were bleeding or some other way.

When a booster fails or is on the way out it doesn't really affect braking performance, just pedal effort. If it fails completely then the pedal will be very hard, but with enough foot power you can get the braking power.

check your pedal free play too- the old lux was doing the same thing.

Look at the underside of the pedal- should be a pushrod with a nut on it. turn the engine off and pump the pedal till there is no vaccum left. take a ruler or tape and measure your free pedal height, then measure how far down you can push it by hand until resistance is felt.

Should be 3-6mm... mine was 16mm and the damn truck REALLY didnt want to stop!
