Hey everyone,
the last couple of months I've been umming and arghing whether or not to race my GQ wagon. However, watching Dirtsprintz (aka Mudsprintz) on the weekend has made me more sure then i have ever been that i want to get out racing. Even after seeing the carnage most competitors received. I am interested in the higher speed events, super rally X and the like. So i would like advice on setting up a vehicle for these kinds of events, especially from those guys who are/have competed in the rounds.
This is what I'm currently thinking and would like some back up so i get it right the first time.
Safety
6 point Rollcage kit is on its way - needs to be welded in. CCDA certified?
Harnesses - which brand and 4 point?
Handling
Springs - 2" raised, rate?
Shocks - Fox Racing shocks? Just 2.0 remote res or would 2.5/3.0 remote res be worth the extra money. Bump stops to go with. Valving and stroke length? (see fabrication)
Radius Arms - I've currently got 4 inch "Big O" arms. Would the extra caster when dropping 2 inch be a good thing? More caster - better on power turning grip
Fabrication
Should i go through the effort to brace the spring and shock perches. Whilst modding shock mounts should i move the top mount up so to utilise more suspension travel and to avoid bottoming out a shock .
Drive
33x12.5 inch tyres
Beadlock rims required?
GU front diff or just stick with GQ and brace it?
Currently have front Lokka diff lock and a rear LSD that works.
Engine
Currently running GT2871RS with maxed GU injection pump with front mount - need bigger fuel pump. There's some high powered rigs getting around but realistic how much power to be relatively competitive?
What should i do to keep the damn TD cool. Which radiator? Big oil cooler with fans? Head coolant rail?
Well that should cover most things and i hope its easy enough to follow. If there is something else you think i am over looking please bring it up. I know i have asked a lot of questions in one post but i thank-you for your help.
regards,
Daniel
