try and find yourself an L98 as the L76 has all the DOD gear in it and makes a cam upgrade a pain in the arse, dont waste your time on an LS1 if you have the finds to go the 6ltr they are heaps better for torque

definately 6.0L if you can afford to. way more torque from lower revs!

Two different motors. The early L76, from the VZ, didn't have the DOD. I would still go the L98 though

The vz l76 does have the Dod lifters I know for a fact that it does as myself and the workshop that do all my ls based tuning have done camshaft upgrades in them, the Dod just wasn't activated on the computers until the release of the ve

To DOD or not to DOD..... that is the question!

If you don't DOD then you Do don't dod but if you do dod the you do dont not dod. dodding is ok if you don't want to undod but if your not wanting dod then you must get non dod. if the dod is there it can be ignored unless you need to un dod.

dod it?

its displacment on demand, its basically a system that drops the 8 cyl to 4 cyl to save fuel, its a different manifol, lifters, pushrods and so on,

Whats wrong with the dod then? That sounds awsome. I had a vy 5.7 in my gu. Others that have gone the 6 litre say its got more torque down low but that stupid go pedal is very sluggish and a delayed reaction.

DOD makes it more expensive to do camshaft upgrades to help with that sluggishness in a 4wd if you want to make it go well do the l98 conversion with a harrop black series blower instant tyre shredding torque

The L76 can be upgraded just as easy. While it has the DOD lifters they still work fine with the larger cams and can be replaced with standard (non DOD) ones if required too. The L76 heads are awesome (same as L98). The VZ did have DOD hardware. The differance between the 5.7 and the 6L is the heads. Older ones are pretty average compared to the new L76/L98 ones and better than the LS2 heads (which are actually LS6 heads from 1999). DOD wont be active on any conversion in any case.

A LS1 can be found these days for under 2k complete. a L98 is 5k+

With the last V8 I owned, the 8 cylinders worked all the time. So simple.

If you're charged rego based on number of cylinders, and you have a V8 that is sometimes a 4, do you get a partial discount on your rego?
