06 Range Rover compressor failing when 4WDing

Post by Bowie »

G'day guys, just wondering if anyone has actually 4WD a Range Rover Sport? I took mine to Fraser on the weekend and after about 2 hours of what I wouldn't call 4WDing, the compressor come up with a fault of overheat and will return to off-road height when cooled... needless to say the next hour of driving was a bit of a laugh while it was on it nuts... I was thinking of adding a second compressor and jumping a relay of the feed for the original compressor to run it. If anyone knows of a better way, let us know. Cheers Matt

You should not have had a problem if you stay below 50kph - as I guess you know, going faster will make it drop to highway height and then it has to pump the car back up again - all this going up and down makes the compressor work harder and overheat - there are kits that allow you to exceed 50kph without it dropping.

I'm not too sure whether we wentr faster than 50, the tracks were pretty tight, but I didn't think of that. We're going to Fraser again at xmas so i'll make proper note this time. Do you know how to turn all the systems off? It shit me to tears and was dangerous when I wanted to accerlerate and the car thought it knew better. I have read the book and didn't tell me too much.

As far as I am aware there is no way the systems can be turned off. However there is aftermarket gear that can trick the car. For example the sensors that detect height can be modified so that standard highway height becomes the offroad height and off road height becomes something higher. I have only had my RRS TDV6 for a day so I am far from expert on all the tricks and issues.

I suggest you join the Australian Landrover Forum http://www.aulro.com/afvb/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as they have a good RRS/D3/D4 section and likewise this dedicated RRS UK site is very good http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers
