Hey there everyone, i'm new here but i think i've registerd quite some time back just that i wasn't posting. A minor introduction from myself. I'm from Malaysia and i got introduced to this forums from my forums back in Malaysia which is offroadershack.com.
recently i got myself a '89 4 runner in drivable condition but needs work on it(brakes and some hoses for the air-cond and some interior panels etc). was used offroad so i guess the ride had seen better days.
A few things just came up to my mind as i want to get the car a RWC and rego it.
1) what's the tire size limit to get a RWC? (running 33" now)
2) is bumpers essential? or can i run without a bull-bar?
3) Since i've already got a turbo kit for the engine, is it legal to do a BOT from a 3L into a 3LT or should i rego and RWC it then add the turbo kit in?
and there are other questions which came up to my mind as well...
1) where can i find interior panels and parts for this car in or around Brisbane? Any good wreckers to introduce?
2) and where can i send this car to get it's RWC passed easy?
thanks guys.

When it comes to getting a RWC and getting it passed for rego, especially in the nanny state, its best you look at the website for DOT/QLD version of RTA.
You might get away with running 33s, but unlikely, as you cant do anything to a 4B in QLD these days.
You will most likely need a front bumper bar or bullbar of some type, I have been defected for not running a front bumper before, that was in Sydney. If you dont have one, then find a mate that has a Lux/4runner/Surf, and borrow it for the RWC check.
Im unsure about the turbo stuff.
As for looking for parts and panels, check the forums, check ebay too, theres alot of bargains if you shop around.
From memory Ive read something about a Hilux graveyard somewhere in QLD, I dont have ay details but someone here would know.
Otherwise, google is your friend.

What does your tyre placard say ??
2) is bumpers essential? or can i run without a bull-bar?
Bumper/bull bar is required
3) Since i've already got a turbo kit for the engine, is it legal to do a BOT from a 3L into a 3LT or should i rego and RWC it then add the turbo kit in?
Turbo will require an engineer to sign off on it to be legal.

Tyre placards are stickers usually around the door jam of drivers door.
I think.
Now that I think about it, I dont remember seeing one on my poolux, but Im sure it wouldnt say 35s on it anyway, so bugger it.

31's should be ok (and a common tyre size on Hiluxes) as you are allowed to fit slightly larger than the largest tyre available for that model.
Do some searching for the exact limits over that are allowed.

yeap searched out already. the tires should not exceed 15mm bigger than original size which is around 1-2" only.
so i guess 31" is the limit.

So Gavan, firstly welcome to Outerlimits.
How is the turbo installation going? Quite keen to read you build up on that one.

You should have a look at BG's turbo on the rockylux 3l engine. Not a CT20 turbo, safari or some make like that.
Will give you an insight anyway.

ah then that would be good la.
got monster there... where to hide my stock car?
anyways, went to get some quotes today for doing the car up. Hopefully he would get back to me soon. Went to check tires as well... brand new skinny ones from China cost AUD$130 a piece and i don't think that includes fitting...
