just wanting to know if any old turbo timer will be ok for td42 , u can buy cheap apexi ones, all my utes have had arb ones, so just making sure there is no difference between petrol and diesel turbo timers

yeah mate anything will do any basic one all use the same principle of keeping the car powerd until the time runs out all you have to do is wire it in with ignition, the more sophisticated ones you can set to turn off when exhaust or other temp reaches a certain temp but for diesel 30sec is plenty if youve been giving it a hiding about 1.5-2mins is enough but if engine temp is high the would let idle till it gets to norm operating again

Good price, yeah. But thats the amount of quality it will be.

I had a couple of cheap apexi and another brand over the last few yrs and both of them shat the LED display.

One lost a number so it was hard to program, and the other lost bits of all the numbers so it was extra hard to see what was going on.

Spend the money on a Bogaard and be done with it, then if you ever sell your vehicle just take it out and install it on the next one if you want.

As Wozza said get a bogaard they are a very reliable unit well worth the money. Trucks have been running the bogaard turbo timer for a long time for good reason.

the main reasoning behind turbo timers on diesels would be the same with pettys yea? the turbo is not going to know what engine is spooling it up, so letting it cool achives the same as a petrol...

It doesnt matter what type of fuel the engine runs on, all turbos need spooling down after being flogged.

A turbo timer is a waste of time. Get an EGT gauge, fit that and only idle the engine down if it needs it. You'll realise this is virtually never.

You're better spending money on beer. Engines only need idled down if you've just climbed a mountain at full noise, with an EGT gauge fitted you can see this for yourself.

I know when my engine needs idling down because i have an EGT gauge, and turbo or not, diesels need idling down its recommended by all manufacturers.

Engines only need idled down when they've been running at very high load, then stopped. Even driving at 100km/h is not sufficient load to need idling time.

Un-necessary idling is very bad for all engines, manufacturers tell you this in all the owners manuals. Yet this is exactly what turbo-timers do, they idle the engine every time regardless.

be care with the gu's and turbo timers i heard that if you dont get the correct ones for the gu's they can stuff up your sub tank fuel pump dunno how but thats the rumour i heard i ended up goin to Opposite Lock and got a turbo timer think its BOGARD or something like that it only took 2-5 mins install as it has all the plugs on it and u just need to unplug ur loom goin to the key and then plug this in

If I had one like that, I'd be manually killing it 98% of the time. I only need to idle down if I've been thrashing it uphill. Mainly skifields. I live on a 100km/h road, by the time I've stopped it's cool enough to shut straight down.

I only use my turbo timer to keep my engine running while I take the keys out of the ignition to unlock the gate
