Got a mate with an 83 hilux and we are replacing the front set up but the shackles are stuck in good. Any ideas on how to get them out

They usually get stuch due to rust formation around the pins, there are many options but if we get a really hard rusty pin to remove we heat the "pin only" with an oxy and it will melt the poly / rubber bush then you can either hit or pry out the pins, usually flogging the pins with a hammer only doesnt get them out if they are really rusted in.

If you do this option make sure you have an extinguisher handy.

ive had some pretty stuck pins and never needed to use oxy. just cut the pin on the inside of the shackle with a grinder and bash it out..

We have had to do the oxy way twice now as even a small sledge hammer would not budge them, they were old LN46 models :bad-words:
If cutting them and a hammer works then that is great but sometimes its not that easy.

Dont burn them out, heat the pin up like Mick said

I have seen guys try to get the rubber to burn using lighter fluid - not a good idea
