Having trouble with the cold start injector and excess fuel usage/lack of power on my 92 toyota 4runner.
So i've had the car for nearly 6 months now and when i bought the car the guy i bought it off had the cold start injector disconnected. He gave me a reason but i cant remember the significance. After connecting it during winter, it ran better with more power above 4 grand and revved smoother through the rev range and used less fuel. When disconnected it struggled and bogged down above 4 g's...
Now here's my dilemma... The reverse now the weather is warmer is true. Bogging down over 4g's and using more fuel.. So i disconnected it again to see if thats the cause and then it seems to run smooth and rev freely above 4 g's again and consumption comes down.
Why would weather change the running of the vehicle when its only a cold start injector? My understanding is that the injector wasnt needed or used while the engine is warm?!
Any help/ideas?!

Not sure on your problem, but why do you think revving a 3VZE above 4gs is a good thing?

It's really only when I overtake that I notice it.. And excess fuel usage... The power curve drops off at 4 vs revving freely past 4 when it's running well. Just a clear comparison between good n bad. I'm not the sort o driver that takes pleasure in valve bouncing or redlining if that's what you are referring too. The v6 is thirsty enough as it is let alone redlining every gear.Struth wrote:Not sure on your problem, but why do you think revving a 3VZE above 4gs is a good thing?

Thats good, I found 3500 rpm was adequate in most cases with the 3VZE that's all.
Not sure but I would think the cold start injector should only operate on cold starts and switch off once the engine is warmed up.
But again not sure.
