hey guys, I have been looking for a second hand 1fzfe from a 100 series to replace my drowned one! i have stumbled across quiet a cheap one but it has been in a roll over! apparently it had been started back in the wrecking yard and all was good but now some parts have been removed for sale so starting it to see myself isnt a easy option!

My question is what risks, problems or damages could have happened with the engine possibly been running upside down, lack of oil pick up? at best if it was switched off and just sat there up side down could that cause damage later down the track?
should i just steer clear or maybe if the price is right just take the risk??

Running upside down or on its side will rarely cause dmamge as it will shut it self down after just a few seconds. The sensors(noc,hall,cam,crank.....) will know something is wrong because the oil hitting the pistons will cause the sensors to think the timing is out and there for shut the engine off.

I would more be looking for damage caused by the role over from a hit or crack. How was it roled over??? slow in the bush or at speed on the highway??? Can you look at the car it came out of? How bad was it? I would take it if it was a bush or light role over but if it was a bad accedent or higher speed role I would stay clear. Hard hits can cause small internal cracks that may take a few days or a few months to cause problems.

thanks mate helped heaps, I'm viewing the whole car tonight and can see how bad and how it rolled. my main concern was running whilst up side down, but sounds like can be ok. Any other opinions welcome to?
