Help me make it stop
We have both 2wd and 4wd versions of these vehicles in our work fleet, and they all beep when you open the door and the keys are still in the ignition.
This is a pain for me as I enjoy having the radio on with the door open when on site.
You can stop it beeping by turning the key to the on position (just before the engine cranks), but this leaves all of the accesories on.
Today I accidentally left the aircon going and flattened the battery, PITA as I was on a downhill slope but it's an auto so no roll start.
The beeping can be stopped by removing the bottom right 15amp fuse, however this provides power to the radio
The beeping sounds like it could be coming from the radio itself, as it also beeps (although differently) when you change channels.
As this is a work car I need to make sure I don't break anything when attempting to fix this problem, and today I got as far as removing the 3 aircon dials and 2 screws before I got into breaking shit territory.
Any ideas ?

Find a car stereo mob and ask them to wire an additional switch to turn the radio on independently of the ignition?

It'd still beep when the doors are open.
I suppose I could tape over all of the door open/closed switches that operate the interior lights so that the car thinks the doors are always closed.
Ideally I want to find the little speaker that makes the sound and terminate it, but I don't know if that is part of the head unit or not.

It's probably not part of the head unit. I'd start by removing the radio and unplugging it. That should tell you if it is part of the radio, and if not you should have a better view behind there to find the buzzer.

I took the easy way out today.
The screw that holds the door light switch in place acts as the earth. Couldn't find any plastic screws that fitted, double sided tape didn't hold, so I just cut the wires and screwed the switches back in.
No more beeping

(or interior light activation by the door)

Take the panel off that sits below the steering wheel (where the height adjuster is) and disconnect one wire off the ignition barrel. Problem solved.
Forget exactly which one it is but try one at a time. Done this on a couple of Rangers now and no problem at all.
Cheers,
Paul

How is pulling a plug that can be reconnected in less than 5 minutes damging a companies vehicle?

except he didn't do that, he cut the wires to the door switches....
I would be really pissed off if one of my employees did this to a vehicle I provided for them, just so they can listen to the radio...

DTEC (
http://www.DTEC.net.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) make a device call a ChimeBuster that allows programmable control of the door open system - its around $65 and works well
They are designed for JK Wranglers ( the key in / door open beep is maddening ) but most vehicle electrical systems systems work identically so.....
They wouldn't know what wire to intercept as its not a Ranger based item but as they are in Melbourne and your in Melbourne something might be possible
have a look and drop them a line - might be the solution.
I've got one in my JK and its heaven.
