Hi all,

I have a RJ70 1985 budera with a 22r engine, and was wondering if there was anything better I could replace it with.....without having to do aload of modifictions to it!

It currently has a 22r 4 cyclinder petrol motor.....and I was thinking about a 1HZ or something but I suppose I would have to change the gearbox, diff's and heaps of other things.

Also was wondering if I can over from petrol to desiel.....I would have to change quite afew things too....right!

Was thinking of that..but being a V8 it would be dangerous in a little thing like this ( I am not looking to make it faster.but something with abit of turque down-low would be good)..like the 1HZ 4.2 or 4.0 2H motors. I thought would be a better choice if you need to make quit afew mod's to it. As they are diesel and parts for them are reasonable and easy to find.

Was also thinking about a 3VZ 3.0L V6...thats in my 4runner. But the 3VZ thats in my 4runner is only as good as the bundy (not real sense in changing it to a 3VZ).

Might have trouble fitting an inline 6 cylinder engine, like the 1HZ, into the smaller Bundera engine bay?

1uz or dual transfers, or both i have both in my lux, and both are worth every penny, also you only have as much power as you put your foot down, and i cant say my 1uz has too much power for my lux. maybe for easier and cheaper you could go for the dodgy old 3.8 v6 dunnydore motor, they are cheap, easy to fit, better than a 22r....... maybe and efi

here is a good question,

how much work do you want to do?
what results are you after?
how much money do you have?
must it be petrol or diesel?

Gawd. A 2h, 1hz or the 3lt yota v6. Could u of picked any worse motors for a lux ? A starfire4 maybe or a 3f !?

Like the boys said. Ecotech or 1uz. Neither will have "too much power"

another option could be to add fuel injection and a turbo to ur 22r

Have you considered a 3 litre 1KZ turbo diesel?
That's my pick.
Or you could do what some of my mad friends run.
3litre 2JZ from a Supra.

If you still insist in a 4 cylinder petrol, 3RZFE.

LOL :D :D :finger: :finger:

seriously

3RZ make heaps of sense

it is cheap
it's light
will bolt into your 22r gearbox with the right bellhousing
4cyl rego
all std toyota parts

other option would be a 1kdftv
(new hilux d4d)
more power more torque less fuel

the 2h and 1hz are very heavy and the 2h puts out less power than your 22r

3rz mate, i have a friend that upted his lux from 22r to 3rz and never looked back. 22r's are cool in there revs etc so emagine more power and revs + more reliabiltiy.

depends on what u are after if u want something that dont mind a bit of water go a diesel with snorkel of course if u want a rice burner brumbrum car go with petrol shit house for down hill unless u are going to gear it rite

a 3rz with a snork will run the same as a diesel with a snork underwater, they are very well sealed.
Not to sure what you are talking about one going down hill, iv never had any dramas with it running away from me down hills, and i have no transfer gears.

Basicly think you have no idea what you are talking about...

dont bother with a diesel, and saying that a 3rz will bolt up to your stock gearbox with the right bellhousing is hardly a selling point, seeing as though you can bolt up almost any toyota or holden engine to the original box with the correct bellhousing.

as far as cheap, a 1uz can be done for 3 grand if you are cluey enough. and no thats no bullshi7. woodbutcher did it. you just have v8 rego. but thats the price you pay for power.

i also cannot say i ever had issues with downhills when i had my 22r (petrol) or now with my 1u, maybe if it was auto. i might have

just keep the 22r, cheapest, easiest, they are fun.
