who has done one before? (or any v8)? and pictures? costs? where do i get the gear from?
If you want to run a 460 in a GQ, you can make an adapter plate to run from the GQ gearbox to the ford 460, ive made a few adapter plates myself now from VW gearbox to a holden red 253, VW gearbox to a subaru brumby motor and also a holden jackaroo 4x4 turbo diesel to a holden red 6 cyl 186, plus range rover gearbox to holden 5L 308 red. So you can pretty much mix and match any gear boxes and motor. To start you will need a 15mm plate to trace 1 bell housing onto it and then trace the other over the top, making sure your input shafts are lined up and central. You will also need to make a spacer between your input shaft and motor as your motor will be 15mm forward.
You will need a drill, an oxy and a grinder and your away!
Another way is to modify your bell housing. Ive done a V6 Hilux conversion, then taken the conversion out and modified the bell housing to suit a toyota dana truck. To do this i used a drill, die grinder and a angle grinder.
It worked well and is still used daily!
Ive also modified a rover bell housing to suit a chrysler centura gearbox. This is now in my MQ mud truck.
The costs depends on how you want to go about it. If you choose to go through someone commercial like marks adapters or delo it will obviousley cost you more, but if you go to your local scrap yard to get the metal and do it all yourself, its alot cheeper. Thats all we do otherwise i wouldnt be able to afford my toys!
You do not need a million dollar work shop to achieve all this, ive built 99% of my toys out in the driveway, weather and all
Good luck mate!
