turbo blankets and covers

Im just doing some research into weather I should buy a turbo blanket or cover to slip over the exhaust side of the turbo. I have two yellow top optima batteries and dont want to wreck them with excessive heat.
Im looking at buying a high mount turbo and manifold from JDM performance, to which he told me that it was lower than a high mount but higher than a low mount.
I dont want to stuff the batteries so any ideas on these covers to fit over the turbo would help and if they actually worked. I will also try to make a ss sheild as well.
Regards Rusty

I have run a turbo blanket for years
Keeps heat in turbine housing so it boosts better and also shields things from radiated heat
Never had any dramas through water crossings or anything really. Under bonnet temps are lowered too
Only thing I can notice is that it takes a bit longer to cool the turbo down at idle
My opinion = worth every cent

I think that the Turbo blanket (Beanie),is primarly used to keep the heat inside the turbine housing (exhaust) side of the turbo rather than to sheild other components, as heat equals energy (plus a few other things) in a turbine, such as a turbo. It is a little bit contradicting sometimes with turbos, as you are trying to cool the exhaust gases coming out of the combustion process rather than keeping the heat in? but a correctly tuned/set up engine should see the benifets of both>

I have a gq ute td42, on the side which the turbo sits theres quite a bit of crap mounted like the compressor, manifold and solinoids for diff locks, shower heat exchanger and the second battery.

the beanie does keep all the heat inside, dramatically reduces radiated heat... most large diesel engines in mining equipment run beanies to protect the surrounding area of the exhaust and turbo

were do you get beenies from and how much are the worth about, I just put a temp cover over my turbo out of the material from the original motor the turbo came of , I have a 3" dump and zorst and heat wrapt that , nothing has seemed to melt yet , sounds like beenie are the way to go

there are performance shops that can custom make blankets for entire exhaust manifolds and turbines. Not sure who does them now though as it been a while since I bought one

I can get some 2nd hand stuff that is sometime used as turbo blankets. Way cheaper than buying new ones. PH 0407276979 Aaron or PM me. I will get the sizes of them tonight and post on the 4 sale section. If no buyers I will try my luck on flea bay.
