from what i have heard and looked into mate if it has had a freshen up it should be sweet. just dont tow in o/d and watch the temps. manual valve bodies would be an advantage if you could fund them when box is out. a few guys use them in comp trucks down south. i looked into it for behind my chev but noone could build and warrant a torque converter for what i needed.
I would go auto over man any day for either of my trucks.

I had LS1 with Cam etc and adapted up the nissan patrol auto worked out really easy, used the LS1 auto bell housing and then made an adapter plate (15mm ally) to mate the nissan upto the LS1 bell housing drilled some new holes in the chev flex plate for the nissan torque converter.

We lowered the stall speed to match the factory VH45 stall speed (nissan 4.5 litre v8 auto uses the same transmission) i then used one of wholesale automatics manual valve bodies and run 4.6 diff ratios with 35 simexs complete setup was mint thashed it continous with no issues. Also ran big trans cooler and did full rebuild on trans using extra plates etc

We did look at using chev auto but it looked tiny compared to the nissan one, the only other trans we considered was the 4l80 chev auto whichs comes out of picksups and was the biggest four speed we could find.

Let me kno if need any thing else.

Cheers
